After a meal, we should feel invigorated. If you are feeling sleepy, bloated, gassy or with a feeling of general discomfort, please continue reading, you will get some useful information that will help you feel better.
There are several things that could upset your stomach and cause improper digestion such as:
- Bad dietary and lifestyle habits
- Prescription medications such as antibiotics or antiacids
- Stress and emotions, among others.
I will give you some helpful tips that you can apply before, during and after every meal to promote a better digestion.
Tip 1: 15 minutes before a meal.
Drink one glass of lukewarm water with 1 Tbsp. of good quality apple cider vinegar.
The acidity of the vinegar will induce a proper environment for digestion because the stomach needs acid, not only for extracting the nutrients, but also to close the sphincter of the stomach and avoid the acids to come up. It is the strength of the acid that closes this door and avoids heartburn or gastritis. If you are taking antiacids, you should seriously consider drinking water with vinegar instead.
Tip 2: During your meal.
During your meals avoid drinking cold water or beverages because it scrapes the needed acid. Instead, take lukewarm water or tea, and do not drink more than 4 oz of water per meal. Also, chew very well your food. The process of chewing induces enzyme production for better digestion.
Tip 3: After your meal
After your meal, drink a decoction or tea of bitter herbs to promote a better digestion such as
- Tangerine peel
- Milk thistle
Try these tips, remember, that health is a choice, not a chance, and that HEALTH is WITHIN your REACH!
